On the morning of August 21, the opening ceremony of Tsinghua University's 2025 undergraduate students was held. School leaders Qiu Yong, Li Luming, Xiang Botao, Zeng Rong, Guo Yong, Zhao Gang, Xu Qinghong, Wang Hongwei, Bai Benfeng, and Wu Huaqiang attended the opening ceremony, and Vice President Peng Gang presided over the ceremony. About 4,000 freshmen attended the ceremony at the main venue of the gymnasium, and they started a new life journey in the beautiful Tsinghua Garden with hot dreams and youthful enthusiasm.
At 9 a.m., the opening ceremony kicked off with the majestic national anthem.
At the ceremony, the freshmen wore the Tsinghua University badge, and Qiu Yong, secretary of the school party committee, put on the Tsinghua University badge for the freshman representatives. The badge shining on the chest not only represents the identity of "Tsinghua people", but also carries the mission and glory of "Tsinghua people", inspiring students to have dreams, work hard, and write a youth chapter worthy of the times.
President Li Luming delivered a speech entitled "Resolute and Persevering, Striving for Progress", welcoming the freshmen of the "Five-Character Class" on behalf of the teachers, students and staff of the school. He said that Southwest Associated University is a special chapter worth remembering in the history of Tsinghua University. The spirit of "forbearance and perseverance" is in line with the history and tradition of Tsinghua University, and is a concentrated embodiment of the school motto of "self-improvement and virtue" at a time when the country and the nation are in danger. Zhang Li, dean of Bauhinia College and professor of the School of Architecture, spoke on behalf of all teachers. He shared his experience of studying and working at Tsinghua University in the past 40 years, and sent a message to students to learn to understand and connect with others in the environmental immersion of Tsinghua Garden, temper and define a better self, and contribute to the country, the nation and the common future of mankind.
Li Buyan, chairman of the student union, spoke on behalf of all the students. Xu Ruize, a 2025 undergraduate student of Shuimu College, spoke on behalf of the freshmen. The opening ceremony was held in a combination of online and offline, with 8 sub-venues including the main venue of the comprehensive gymnasium and the new Tsinghua Academy, and was broadcast live simultaneously through the Rain Classroom platform. Relatives and friends of freshmen watched the ceremony at the main venue and 8 sub-venues of the gymnasium.
