
In active response to the “Belt and Road” Initiative and to strengthen the global prestige of the Study at Nankai University brand, the School of International Education sent three dedicated recruitment teams to Vietnam and Malaysia between March and April 2026. These missions represent a proactive “going global” strategy, aimed at deepening educational cooperation with Southeast Asian nations and attracting high-caliber international students to Nankai’s historic campus in Tianjin.
Success at the HSK Study in China Fair in Vietnam From March 14 to 16, 2026, a delegation led by Wang Hongchang, Vice Dean of the School of International Education, participated in the HSK Study in China Exhibition held in Vietnam. The event was a resounding success, with over 1,000 students expressing a strong interest to Study at Nankai University. The delegation received high-level guidance from Mr. Xu Zhou, Deputy Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. He commended Nankai’s recruitment efforts and expressed high expectations for the university to achieve new breakthroughs in international student enrollment through these direct engagement platforms.
Building “Quality Source Bases” in Malaysia The recruitment drive continued in April with two simultaneous missions to Malaysia. From April 7 to 10, Vice Dean Wang Yujun led a team to Negeri Sembilan and Johor to participate in the 2026 China University Tour Exhibition. These two exhibitions attracted approximately 4,500 students.
A significant milestone during this trip was the formal signing of “Quality Student Source Base” agreements with Seremban Chung Hua High School and Kluang Chong Hwa High School. Additionally, the team signed a strategic exchange agreement for the “MCA Incubation of New Era Talent Project,” ensuring a steady pipeline of elite Malaysian students who wish to Study at Nankai University.
High-Level Commendation at the Higher Education Expo Concurrently, from April 8 to 11, Vice Dean Wen Baoying led a third team across Penang, Perak, and Kuala Lumpur/Selangor for the China Higher Education Exhibition, which saw nearly 2,000 attendees. During this tour, a new partnership was established with Han Chiang High School to set up another “Quality Student Source Base.”
The Nankai booth was honored by a visit from Ouyang Yujing, the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia. Ambassador Ouyang spoke highly of Nankai University’s proactive measures in attracting outstanding international scholars and recognized the university’s vital role in fostering China-Malaysia educational ties.
Strategic Impact and Future Outlook This series of recruitment activities in Vietnam and Malaysia marks a crucial step for Nankai University in enhancing its international influence. By deploying three synergistic teams, the university successfully reached over 7,500 students and secured multiple institutional partnerships.
