The 4th Tsinghua University Higher Education Forum was held

On October 18, the 4th Tsinghua Higher Education Forum with the theme of "The Future of Higher Education Internationalization: Market, Geopolitics and Epistemological Justice" opened at the Southeast Asia Center of Tsinghua University.

Guo Yong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, Getachew Engida, former Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, and Ir. I. Nega Sujaya, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Udayana University. I Nengah Sujaya) and Cherie Nursalim, Co-Chair of the Southeast Asia Center of Tsinghua University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, and Stella Christie, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of Indonesia, delivered a video speech. More than 150 experts, scholars and researchers from global educational institutions participated in the forum.

Guo Yong said at the meeting that in the face of the complex situation of globalization and geopolitics, the internationalization of higher education urgently needs to build a new model, new form and new consensus. Tsinghua University attaches great importance to the implementation of global strategies, actively promotes the development and construction of overseas bases, expands high-quality international educational resources, and builds a global partnership system for education and scientific research. Getachew Engida said that the internationalization of higher education brings opportunities for cooperation and faces many unequal challenges, and the future must be committed to building equitable partnerships.

Ir. I Nengah Sujaya shared the relevant experience of internationalization practices in universities in the Global South, especially Udayana University. Cherie Nursalim used the Southeast Asia Center of Tsinghua University as a case study to demonstrate the substantive exploration of new concepts of internationalization. Stella Christie said higher education is the key to driving economic growth. Research universities generate knowledge, attract investment, and build infrastructure through scientific and technological innovation, forming a virtuous cycle of "knowledge-investment-infrastructure" to promote long-term economic growth.

Focusing on the future of higher education internationalization, Professor Emeritus Cheng Jieming of the University of Hong Kong, William Kirby, Chairman of the Harvard China Foundation, and Simon Marginson, Founding Director of the Center for Global Higher Education Research at the University of Oxford, delivered keynote speeches respectively. In the roundtable dialogue session, Xie Weihe, senior professor of liberal arts at Tsinghua University, Liu Haifeng and William Kirby, senior professors of liberal arts at Zhejiang University, Shi Zhongying, dean of the School of Education of Tsinghua University, and Yang Rui, dean of the School of Education of the University of Hong Kong, discussed the prospects of Sino-US higher education cooperation.

Participants Tsinghua Higher Education Forum was founded in 2022 and strives to become a watchtower and think tank for global higher education change.
