Study in China, Build Dreams for the World!

Shanghai International Studies University welcomed nearly 1,000 international students from around the world in the 2025 academic year

At the beginning of September, the campus of Shanghai International Studies University welcomed a special group of "new members" - nearly 1,000 international students from 84 countries and regions around the world, who are eager for knowledge and looking forward to the future, and are starting a new chapter in their lives here.

01 One-stop check-in: heart-warming service "zero errands"

The morning sun shines on the campus, and the colorful and eye-catching stickers have already been spread along the school road, extending from each school gate to the check-in point, guiding the direction for the new international freshmen. In the check-in hall on the first floor of Building 6, all the teachers of the International Student Office are already ready, smiling and warmly welcoming the arrival of every "newcomer". In the hall, various registration processes are carried out in an orderly manner: photo building, information registration, scholarship consultation, fee payment, check-in and sign-in, visa processing and other processes are smoothly connected, without the need for freshmen to travel back and forth. From admission procedures to life consultation, this "one-stop" service puts warm care into practice, allowing international students who are new to campus to feel the warmth of home in an instant.

02 Bring the old to the new: Volunteer power to spread warmth

"Bringing the old with the new" is a tradition of orientation for many years in the Office of International Students. This year, senior volunteers from Nigeria, Japan, Vietnam and other countries were stationed in their respective posts early, becoming a dazzling scenery in the orientation team. They patiently checked the registration information for the freshmen, distributed orientation packages, and explained the registration details and campus life tips in detail. These volunteers use their personal experience to help freshmen quickly familiarize themselves with the campus and eliminate the strangeness of new arrivals.

03 Legal Publicity + Freshman Guidance: "Escort" for Study Abroad Life

In order to help international students adapt to study and life in China faster, the school has carried out legal publicity and freshman publicity activities simultaneously on the two campuses of Hongkou and Songjiang. During the event, the police officers of the immigration management department explained in detail the laws and regulations closely related to international students, such as visa extension, residence permit processing, and entry and exit regulations, based on real cases, and guided everyone to establish a sense of law-abiding and reasonably arrange their itinerary in China. Subsequently, members of the International Student Federation also took the podium, not only sharing practical information such as course learning, club activities, and campus resource utilization, but also warmly inviting freshmen to join the Federation family, encouraging everyone to actively participate in campus activities, broaden their horizons, and gain friendship in exchanges.

From the meticulous guidance of entering the campus to the comprehensive care of study and life, Shanghai and Wai have built a stage for international students to pursue their dreams with practical actions. It is expected that this group of "rising stars" from all over the world can live up to their youth and love here, and write their own wonderful chapters in the collision and integration of cross-cultures.
