
On November 11, the 14th China-Thailand Strategy Symposium, co-sponsored by Huaqiao University and the National Institute of Thailand, and hosted by the School of International Relations of Huaqiao University, was held at the Huayuan Gate Campus. With the theme of "50 Golden Years of China-Thailand Friendship: Opening a New Era of Destiny and Coexistence", nearly 100 experts, scholars, government officials and representatives from all walks of life from China and Thailand gathered together to review the cooperation achievements of China and Thailand over the past 50 years of diplomatic relations, look forward to the future direction of cooperation, and contribute wisdom to promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Thailand to a higher level.
Lin Hongyu, Vice President of Huaqiao University, Vipara Dion, Executive Secretary General of the National Research Institute of Thailand, and Zhou Napa, Director of the Information and Public Relations Department of the China-ASEAN Center, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
Lin Hongyu pointed out in his speech that this seminar was held at an important historical moment on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, which is of great significance. He reviewed the fruitful achievements made by China and Thailand in the fields of politics, economy and humanities since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975. He said that Huaqiao University, as a key university built by the Chinese government, has long actively promoted China-Thailand educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, and hopes to take this seminar as an opportunity to further deepen China-Thailand strategic docking and think tank cooperation, and contribute wisdom and strength to promote the construction of a China-Thailand community with a shared future.
Vipara Diong said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand 50 years ago, friendship has developed steadily, like a bridge of trust that closely connects the peoples, culture and academic cooperation between the two countries. She spoke highly of the long-term and stable cooperation with Huaqiao University, and emphasized that this symposium is not only a commemorative friendship journey, but also an opportunity to look forward to the future and deepen cooperation driven by scientific and technological and research innovations.
From the perspective of China-ASEAN cooperation, Zhou Napa pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand 50 years ago, bilateral relations have been based on mutual trust, understanding and respect, high-level exchanges between the two countries have laid a solid foundation for relations, economic cooperation is the cornerstone of bilateral relations, and tourism and people-to-people exchanges are important pillars. The China-ASEAN Centre will actively implement the leaders' consensus and promote the development of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
In the keynote speech session, Professor Zhang Xiuwu, Dean of the Institute of Quantitative Economics and Statistics of Huaqiao University, Professor Weiwen Danjidipapong, Member of the Academic Committee of the National Academy of Sciences of Thailand, and Researcher Yu Haiqiu, Director of the Institute of Thai Studies, Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, delivered speeches on topics such as China-Thailand industrial cooperation, the path of building a community with a shared future, and the evolution of bilateral relations.
The seminar session included four major topics: "trade, industry-supply chain cooperation and connectivity", "tourism, education and people-to-people exchanges", "artificial intelligence, new energy and green economy cooperation", and "China-Thailand relations and the construction of a community with a shared future". The participating scholars conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on key areas of China-Thailand cooperation, and put forward a number of forward-looking and practical suggestions.
It is understood that as an important platform for high-end think tank exchanges between China and Thailand, the China-Thailand Strategic Seminar has been successfully held for 14 sessions since its inception in 2012, becoming an important mechanism to promote academic mutual learning, policy communication and people-to-people ties between the two countries. Huaqiao University will continue to give full play to the characteristics and disciplinary advantages of overseas Chinese universities, deepen cooperation with Thailand in the fields of education, culture, science and technology, and inject new impetus into the construction of a China-Thailand community with a shared future.
HUAQIAO UNIVERSITY
The school was founded in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, and has campuses in Quanzhou City and Xiamen City. The university is a university directly under the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee (Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council), a university under the central government, a national Chinese language education base, a national language and writing promotion base, and a base for the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture established by Premier Zhou Enlai Chinese mainland Chinese mainland.
In 1960, the school was founded in Quanzhou, Fujian Province with the approval of the state, and was identified as a "national key university" by the Party Central Committee in 1983. It was jointly established in 1996 by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the Fujian Provincial People's Government. In 2006, the Xiamen campus was opened. In 2018, it was selected as a "double first-class" construction university in Fujian Province. In 2019, it was jointly established by the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and the Fujian Provincial People's Government. In 2022, it was selected as a "double first-class" construction A university in Fujian Province.
