
From October 27th to October 28th, entrusted by the Ministry of Education, the China Education Association for International Exchange organized a certification expert group to come to Shenzhen University to conduct an on-site review of the quality recertification of higher education for international students in China. Members of the on-site review and certification team, President Mao Junfa of Shenzhen University, Vice President Chao Naipeng, heads of various functional departments of the school, heads of departments for training international students in China, and heads of centralized management departments attended the meeting.
Mao Junfa delivered a welcome speech and introduced the basic situation of Shenzhen University. He said that Shenzhen University, as the first university in Shenzhen to recruit international students to China, has always adhered to the international development thinking of the whole university, done a good job in the brand of "studying abroad in Shenzhen", and aimed to create a world-class comprehensive university and a benchmark university for socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. Shenzhen University will take this certification as a new starting point to fully implement the feedback, deepen the reform of education and teaching, and build a more solid bridge for education, culture and scientific and technological exchanges between China and foreign countries.
Fang Jun, chairman of the Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Branch of the China Education Association for International Exchange, former deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education, and first-level inspector, spoke on behalf of the on-site review and certification team. He stressed that in order to promote the high-quality development of studying in China, the Ministry of Education has carried out the certification of relevant universities to study in China, aiming to take high-level quality certification as the starting point to escort the brand building of studying in China and the development of study abroad. He hoped that through this certification, Shenzhen University can comprehensively improve the quality and service level of studying in China, find out the existing shortcomings and shortcomings, put forward effective improvement measures, promote the scale, quality and structure of studying in China to a new level, and further promote the international influence of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Gu Jianzheng, leader of the certification review team and former dean of the School of International Education of Harbin Institute of Technology, introduced the on-site review and certification work and requirements. He said that the re-certification of the quality of studying in China is a re-diagnosis, re-examination and re-evaluation of the school's education work in China. He hoped that Shenzhen University's study abroad work in China can be based on the characteristics and advantages of the school, more actively explore the high-quality development path and quality governance methods of the school's study abroad education in China, strive to solve the difficulties and pain points of study in China, and build a demonstration base for studying in China with international influence, so as to contribute to serving the overall situation of national politics and diplomacy, serving the "Belt and Road" education openness and cooperation, and serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the construction of Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Zone.
Chao Naipeng reported in detail on the work of Shenzhen University in China and the self-assessment and self-improvement of Shenzhen University from four aspects: the basic situation of Shenzhen University, the work overview of international students in China, the self-evaluation of recertification, and the summary and prospect.
During the two-day on-site review work, the expert group inspected the facilities and equipment of Shenzhen University Library, International Student Building, Media National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, National Engineering Laboratory of Big Data System Computing Technology, etc., interviewed the school leaders in charge of studying in China, representatives of relevant functional departments, representatives of training departments, teacher representatives, international student representatives, and representatives of centralized management departments. Understand the teaching and management of studying in China in an all-round way.
Gu Jianzheng gave feedback on the preliminary review opinions on behalf of the certification review team. He said that during the review period, the team gained an in-depth understanding of the school's study abroad work in China by listening to reports, organizing discussions and interviews, consulting archives, observing courses, and field visits. He pointed out that after passing the initial certification in 2019, Shenzhen University has continued to improve its management mechanism, improve service level and training effectiveness, and play an outstanding role in the integration of industry and education. He hoped that Shenzhen University could further improve the mechanism configuration, expand the scale and optimize the structure, strengthen the construction of international courses and majors, and promote the work of studying in China to a new level.
Other experts from the certification review team put forward suggestions on the higher education work of international students in China from the aspects of driving management mechanism and resource allocation, professional curriculum construction, student quality improvement and structural optimization, and expressed their expectation that Shenzhen University will make new contributions to the opening up of education in the new era and the international development strategy of national higher education.
Mao Junfa made a statement on behalf of Shenzhen University. He said that the expert group "took the pulse" of Shenzhen University's study abroad education work in China with a professional vision and rigorous attitude, pointing out the direction for the reform of the school, and this review opinion is not only a test of the school's international achievements in the past six years, but also a new starting point for the school to move towards "world-class international student education with Chinese characteristics" and the "golden key" to improve the quality of education. He said that the opening up of education to the outside world is the mission of Shenzhen University, and the school will take this recertification as a new starting point, and transform the expert suggestions of the review team into specific rectification actions with the "Shenzhen speed" of "doing it immediately", make every effort to build a "long-awaited study destination" for international students around the world, optimize the brand of "study abroad in Shenzhen", and contribute to the construction of an educational power in the new era.
