On the afternoon of November 5, the International Student Association of Shanghai Normal University held the 2025-2026 International Student Association General Election and All Member Exchange Meeting at the International Student Center. Ms. Tang Li, Ms. Cai Jue, Ms. Li Jing and Ms. Qian Yuting from the International Student Development Center of the International Exchange Office of Shanghai Normal University attended the meeting and witnessed this important moment with the new and old members of the association. The purpose of this meeting is to strengthen the self-management ability of international student organizations, promote communication between new and old members, and elect new members of the presidium and the backbone of various departments, so as to jointly promote cultural exchanges among international students of our university, provide assistance to international students, and make everyone's campus life more colorful.
At the beginning of the conference, Ms. Tang Li, on behalf of all the teachers of the International Student Center, extended a warm welcome to the members present. She reviewed the hard work of the members of the association in the previous academic year, highly praised the remarkable achievements made by everyone in academic exchanges, cultural activity organization, campus services and other aspects, and expressed her heartfelt thanks to the members for their selfless dedication. At the same time, Ms. Tang Li encouraged the students who actively signed up for the election this academic year to bravely show themselves and put forward their expectations for the new backbone members.
The other three teachers of the International Student Center then introduced their responsibilities to the students, so that students could better understand the services and support directions of the center.
The meeting was presided over by Xu Jia, president of the International Student Association for the 2024-2025 academic year and a student from Madagascar. At the meeting, the key members of the previous association made a comprehensive summary of the work of the past academic year, and they reviewed in detail the fruitful results achieved by the members in the past year, showing the spirit of unity, cooperation and mutual help of the International Student Association. At the same time, they also extended warm invitations to new members, encouraging everyone to actively participate in the work of the sorority and contribute to creating a diverse, inclusive and friendly campus culture.
Subsequently, the new and old members carried out warm and interesting ice-breaking activities. Everyone quickly shortened the distance between each other and enhanced their understanding of each other through the name solitaire game.
After an early round of open recruitment and strict screening, a total of 22 outstanding international students from 12 countries around the world stood out and entered the election process. After the host explained the election regulations and voting rules in detail, the candidates took the stage in turn, and they gave a 2-minute speech on self-introduction, personal advantages, work plans, future prospects, etc. Some candidates share their campus experiences and ideas for sorority work in fluent Chinese, while others express their passion and determination to serve international students in authentic English. Their confident performance and wonderful speeches fully demonstrated the demeanor and responsibility of international students.
After the tense and orderly voting session, the general election meeting came to a successful conclusion. Since its establishment in 2017, the International Student Association of Shanghai Normal University has been established voluntarily by international students under the careful guidance of the International Exchange Office (International Student Development Center), and is committed to serving all international students of the university and realizing the function of international student self-management. In 1954, Shanghai Normal College was established, and in 1956 it was expanded into undergraduate colleges Shanghai First Normal University and Shanghai Second Normal University, and in 1958 the two schools were merged into Shanghai Normal University. In 1972, the five universities were merged into Shanghai Normal University. In 1978, the college was restored to its original structure. In 1981, it became the first batch of master's degree-granting units in China. In 1984, it was renamed Shanghai Normal University. In 1986, it was approved as a doctoral degree-granting unit. From 1994 to 2003, Shanghai Technical Normal University, Shanghai Normal College, Nanlin Normal School Huangling Health Care Normal Department, Shanghai Xingzhi Art Normal School, Shanghai Teacher Training Center, Shanghai Tourism College, Shanghai International Education Exchange Center, etc. were successively merged into or transferred to the management of the school.
