In order to promote international students to have an in-depth understanding of the excellent traditional Chinese culture, on the afternoon of October 28, the 15th lecture of the brand project "Chinese Culture School" of the School of International Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University - "Chinese Dance Master Experience Class" was successfully held on Xingqing Campus.
The event specially invited senior Chinese dance instructor Li Zuojunxiu to give a live lecture, with Cai Xinyan, a teacher from the School of International Education, as the translator, attracting nearly 30 international students from 22 countries including Argentina, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Afghanistan, France, Jordan, Australia, South Korea, Fiji, and Morocco, to participate and immerse themselves in the rhythmic beauty of Chinese classical dance.
With the theme of "Exploring the Beauty of Classics", this school is designed for students with zero foundation. At the beginning of the course, Mr. Li Zuojunxiu used vivid metaphors to explain classical Chinese dance as a modern expression system that integrates opera, martial arts and ancient literary and artistic spirit. After a brief explanation of the elements of body rhyme such as "lifting, sinking, rushing, and leaning", the students systematically warmed up and stretched under the guidance of the teacher to prepare for dance learning.
The teaching session revolves around the fragment of the Han and Tang classical dance "Double-faced Yanxun". Teacher Li started with basic movements such as "orchid palm", "mountain arm" and "T-shaped step", and patiently broke down each posture and step. Although most of the students were new to Chinese dance, under the careful guidance of the teacher, everyone gradually got better and tried to interpret the aesthetics of Chinese dance with body language.
The course reached a climax in the group presentation and video shooting. The students worked in small groups to interpret the clips they had learned with the teacher, leaving moving dance postures in front of the camera. Li Ruyan, a computer science and technology student from Bosnia and Herzegovina, shared: "The experience of these two hours is beyond imagination. The moment the music sounds, it is instantly brought into the situation. Although his hands and feet were uncoordinated at first, like a stupid penguin, when he finished a coherent dance, the sense of accomplishment was indescribable. Although his whole body was sore, he was very happy, as if he had touched the temperature of a thousand-year-old culture through dance. ”
The event ended in a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere. Many students said that this immersive experience allowed their understanding of Chinese culture to go beyond books and become more real. Many students expressed their willingness to join the "Jiaoxiaoliu Dance Troupe" on the spot, hoping to continue to explore Chinese dance art.
This event is not only a dance class, but also a bridge for cultural exchange. In the stretching and rhythm of their bodies, the international students personally felt the profound heritage and dynamic charm of Chinese culture. In the future, the School of International Education will continue to launch more high-quality cultural experience activities through the "Chinese Culture School" platform, opening a window for Jiaotong University students from all over the world to understand China.
