Xi'an Jiaotong University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education and a member of China's C9 universities. Founded in 1896, the school is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in China. The university is a comprehensive research university covering 11 disciplines such as science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, art, education, and interdisciplinary. At present, nearly 4,000 foreign students from more than 130 countries are studying at Xi'an Jiaotong University. In 2013, it was awarded the honor of "the first batch of demonstration bases for studying in China" by the Ministry of Education. In 2024, the school passed the higher education quality certification (re-certification) for international students in China with the highest accreditation level of A+. In 2025, Shanghai Soft Science and Technology China University Rankings will rank 10th.

1. Application qualifications

1. Under 25 years old (under 18 years old can provide a power of attorney by a legal guardian), in good health;

  1. Hold a valid foreign passport;
  2. High school graduation or above (pre-graduation certificate must be provided before graduation at the time of application, and high school graduation certificate must be obtained before enrollment at the latest);
  3. Meet the corresponding language level requirements.

l Chinese teaching programs: Chinese proficiency certificate must be submitted. Chinese proficiency should be equivalent to HSK level 4 or above. (Those who do not meet the Chinese proficiency standard can choose to study in the preparatory course of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and those whose Chinese proficiency level reaches the level 4 of the "International Chinese Proficiency Standard" after the preparatory course can enter the undergraduate study, and those who do not meet the standard cannot enter the professional study.)

l English-taught programs: submit proof of English proficiency. IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 or Duolingo 110 or above, or other equivalent English proficiency certificate recognized by our school.

*Native speakers of Chinese or English are exempt from submitting the corresponding language proficiency certificate as recognized by our school.

5. Comply with the provisions of the Ministry of Education's Foreign Letter [2020] No. 12 document and the relevant regulations of our school.

3. Application materials

  1. "Xi'an Jiaotong University Admission Application Form for International Students" (fill in the online application system of Xi'an Jiaotong University School of International Education);
  • Notarized documents of high school education certificates, and official translations of texts other than Chinese or English must be provided; Fresh graduates should provide the original pre-graduation certificate issued by their school, and supplement the official documents when registering for admission;
  • Academic transcripts. notarized copies of transcripts of all courses in high school and descriptions of the school's performance evaluation system, and notarized official translations of texts other than Chinese or English must be provided; Transcripts of standardized tests or internationally accepted standardized tests (e.g. A-Level, IBDP, etc.) from the student's home country;
  • Proof of language proficiency (such as IELTS, TOEFL, DUOLINGO, HSK certificate, etc.); Native Chinese/English speakers are not required to be provided by our school;
  • Transcript of the "China Scholastic Competency Assessment, hereinafter referred to as "CSCA";
  • Letters of recommendation. One letter, issued by the high school principal or teacher (signed by the referee and indicating the email address and contact number);
  • Study Plan. Written in Chinese or English, no less than 600 words;
  • Foreign ordinary valid passport (passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of enrollment);
  • The original and notarized copy of the "Physical Examination Record for Foreigners" (This form is uniformly printed by the Chinese health and quarantine department, can be downloaded by clicking http://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/2.pdf, and must be filled in in Chinese or English.) Applicants should strictly follow the items required in the form for inspection. Forms with missing items, no photo or no riding seal on the photo, no doctor's opinion and hospital signature and seal are invalid. The test results are valid for 6 months);
  • Certificate of no criminal record within the validity period;
  • Other support materials (if any).

    • Note: a. If the materials do not meet the requirements, they will not be accepted;

    b.2~11 items must be uploaded to the online registration system of the School of International Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University;

    c. The above materials must be in Chinese or English, and notarized copies of translations must be provided in other languages;

    d. During the review process, the school may require students to submit other materials as needed.

    4. Application process

    1. Participate in the "Undergraduate Admission Academic Proficiency Test for Studying in China"

    All students applying for an undergraduate degree in China must take the "Undergraduate Admission Academic Proficiency Test for Studying in China" (CSCA) organized by the China Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and submit valid transcripts. Students can visit the CSCA official website at www.csca.cn for details and registration methods. For details of the test subjects required by each major of our school, please refer to the website (https://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/zsxm/xlxm/bk.htm).

    2. Submit your application online

    Log in to the online registration system of the School of International Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University, complete the online application and upload materials according to the system prompts. No need to mail paper materials.

    1. Pay the application fee to complete the application

    After the applicant submits the application in our school system, our school will conduct a preliminary review, and if the preliminary review passes, the system will open the payment of the registration fee, complete the payment on time and in full, and the application will be completed. Regardless of whether you are admitted or not, the registration fee is non-refundable.

    1. Admission

    The school will assess and admit applicants through material review, CSCA, interviews, etc. After completing the application, please pay attention to your application system and registration email address in time, and follow up on information such as interviews, pre-admissions, tuition payments, and final admissions.

    1. Check-in

    Admitted students must go through the registration procedures in strict accordance with the requirements of the admission notice. The registration time is early September 2026, subject to the requirements of the admission notice. When registering, the admission qualification will be reviewed, and the student's identity information, original graduation certificate, language proficiency certificate, etc., as well as the compliance and ideological character before the deadline for registration. Those who fail the qualification review will be disqualified.

    The accommodation for international students is divided into three campuses: Xingqing, Yanta and Innovation Port. The campus is uniformly arranged by the school according to the school policy of the current year. Students need to book their own room online. The fee is generally between 8,000-19,000 RMB per academic year.

    1. Chinese government scholarship

    Please visit the website www.csc.edu.cn of the China Scholarship Council for specific information. Applicants must apply through the international student sending department in their home country. When filling out the application form, you must fill in "Xi'an Jiaotong University" as your first choice in the "Applying Institution" column.

    2. International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship

    Applicants must apply on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Project Management Platform. For details, please visit the website www.chinese.cn of the Sino-Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education of China for specific information.

    3. Xi'an Jiaotong University Undergraduate International Student Freshman Scholarship

    Sponsor non-medical undergraduate international students who have excellent character and academics, apply to study for undergraduate degrees at our university and obtain admission qualifications from our university. Applicants submit their applications in the Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Application System. The scholarship funding criteria are: special scholarship (100% tuition fee waiver), first class scholarship (75% tuition fee waiver), second class scholarship (50% tuition fee waiver), third class scholarship (25% tuition fee waiver), and excellent scholarship (10% tuition fee waiver). The scholarships are all in the first year of the undergraduate level, and subsequent academic years must be comprehensively evaluated based on academic performance in school.

    4. Xi'an "Belt and Road" scholarship for foreign students

    Applicants submit their applications in the Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Application System. The scholarship is for the first year of the academic stage, and the subsequent academic year must be comprehensively evaluated based on the academic performance in school. The specific content must pay attention to the relevant notices.

    1. Shaanxi Sanqin Scholarship, Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Commendation Award

    The Shaanxi Sanqin Scholarship and the Xi'an Jiaotong University International Student Commendation Award are both one-time awards. The target is full-time self-financed foreign students. After self-financed students enter the school, they can pay attention to the relevant notices of the school and submit materials to apply as required.
