The golden autumn is refreshing, the osmanthus is fragrant, and the prelude to the fall semester of 2025 has quietly begun. More than 800 international students from 62 countries and regions around the world arrived at Zhengzhou University with a desire for knowledge and a vision for the future, opening a new chapter in their lives. In order to help students overcome cultural differences and quickly integrate into the environment, our college has planned in advance, carefully deployed, combined points and surfaces, and gradually promoted the orientation work for international students in the fall semester of 2025.
Before the orientation work begins, our college will hold a joint meeting of the party and government in time to study and deploy the orientation work for international students in the new semester. During the meeting, our college referred to the overall arrangement of the school's orientation work, focused on helping students integrate into the new environment as soon as possible in the initial stage of admission, established good learning and living habits, analyzed the work content during the orientation period, and clarified the work objectives and division of responsibilities of each business department. After the meeting, the General Affairs Office of our college took the lead in formulating the "Implementation Opinions on the Orientation of International Students of Zhengzhou University (Trial)", which provided a clear implementation blueprint for the efficient promotion and orderly development of the orientation work, and effectively ensured the smooth start of campus life for international students.
Life guide escorts the road to study
After unremitting efforts in the early stage, our college officially printed a bilingual version of the "Zhengzhou University International Student Life Guide" covering three major contents: admission guide, campus life and city life before the start of the new semester orientation work. Among them, the admission guide clarifies visa application, carrying belongings, entry registration, accommodation and address registration; Campus life clarifies orientation arrangements, insurance purchases, health check-ups, bank account opening, and common information. Urban life clarifies urban transportation, urban business districts, urban attractions, foreign-related hotels and statutory holidays. In the future, our college will continue to update the content of the life guide every year to provide international students with clearer and more practical life guidelines.
Orientation services have reached a new level
After the orientation work began, our college set up orientation service desks in the lobby on the first floor and the second floor of the office building of the School of International Education on the main campus and the lobby on the second floor of the office building of the School of International Education on the East Campus. After the orientation work, our college organized a summary meeting of the orientation work and organized the compilation of the "Zhengzhou University International Student Orientation Volunteer Service Manual", focusing on pre-job training for orientation volunteers in different years in the future, so as to further standardize the service work of orientation volunteers.
Registration improves quality and efficiency
In order to improve the efficiency of international student registration, our college issued the "Notice on the Opening of the Fall Semester of 2025" and the "Registration Process for International Students of Zhengzhou University" through the WeChat platform and bulletin board before the start of the new semester. At the same time, our college has also formulated the "Zhengzhou University International Student Registration Flow Form" corresponding to Chinese language students, preparatory students, advanced students, undergraduate, master's students, and doctoral students, and printed them in advance. When international students arrive at the school to start registration, orientation volunteers promptly distribute registration flowsheets and conduct bilingual registration guidelines at service points to ensure a smooth registration process. The above measures have greatly improved the efficiency of international students' registration.
Theme movie watching to understand the real China
2025 coincides with the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, in order to help international students understand Chinese history and convey the concept of "remembering history is not to promote hatred, but to protect the truth and cherish peace", our college specially organized a theme movie viewing activity for international students. After the registration of international students, our college organized more than 800 students to watch the movie "Nanjing Photo Studio" in four sessions. Many international students did not understand China's tragic experience and great contributions in World War II, but many students were deeply shocked by the plot of the movie during the movie-watching activities, and even left sad tears, saying that they must cherish their future study and life in China.
Feel the hard power of school history experience
In order to enhance the identity of international students with the history and culture of the school, and intuitively feel the development history and scientific research achievements of the school, our college organized international students to visit the school's history museum in batches. During the visit, the professional docent led the students to explore along the route of "the original intention of the founding of the school - scientific research breakthrough - alumni legend", from the old teaching equipment to today's scientific research platform, and listened to the story of "starting from scratch" behind the school. From the early talent training model to the current international school-running achievements, international students intuitively feel the "hard core power" of the school. In the immersive experience, the students strengthened their emotional connection with the school, and their sense of belonging was effectively enhanced.
Entrance education focuses on setting rules
In order to help international students quickly adapt to study and life in China, our college has organized students to carry out the "first lesson of admission" and "four about" education. In the first lesson of admission, the counselor explained in detail the "Zhengzhou University International Student Safety Matters Commitment" and the "Zhengzhou University International Student Code of Conduct Commitment" for the international students, and asked all students to sign it on the basis of careful reading. In the "Four Abouts" education, the counselor gave in-depth explanations from four aspects: China and the Communist Party of China, Henan Province and Zhengzhou City, Zhengzhou University and the College of International Education, as well as Chinese laws and regulations and school rules and disciplines, so that everyone can clarify the direction of efforts in cognition and anchor the goal in perception.
The opening ceremony set sail on a new journey
Before the end of the orientation work, our college organized international students of different categories and majors to participate in the opening ceremony. On behalf of our college, the team members of our college were invited to participate in the opening ceremony of Chinese students, preparatory students, undergraduate students and graduate students, and warmly welcomed the students to join the big family of Zhengzhou University on behalf of our college, and put forward ardent expectations and pertinent suggestions for everyone's future study and life in Zhengzhou based on their personal experiences. It is particularly worth mentioning that all international students majoring in clinical medicine, stomatology and pharmacy majors, under the leadership of counselors, raised their right arms and took a solemn oath, declaring their reverence for life and health and their adherence to the medical cause with sonorous and powerful commitments.
So far, the 2025 fall semester international student orientation series of activities of our college has come to a successful conclusion. The students stepped into the campus with dreams and began to study with enthusiasm.
