Xidian University Organizes Educational Practice Activities for International Students

On December 5, with bright sunshine, the School of International Education of Xidian University organized 25 international students from 8 countries to carry out educational practice activities at the Xi'an City Wall and the Forest of Steles Museum. Stepping out of the campus, they wandered happily on the Xi'an City Wall under the warm sun of early winter, visited the Xi'an Forest of Steles Museum, strolled through the streets of the ancient city of Xi'an, and completed a city walking plan.

The Xi'an City Wall is one of the largest and most well-preserved ancient city walls in China. It is a first batch of national key cultural relics protection units, a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, and the only city wall building among the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. Under the guidance of the interpreter, the students climbed the city wall from Yongning Gate, visited the section from Yongning Gate to Wenchang Gate, learned about the important significance of the city wall in ancient military defense and urban construction, felt the hardships and difficulties of the ancients in building the city wall, and deepened their knowledge and understanding of Xi'an, this historical city.

After coming down from the city wall, the students visited the Forest of Steles Museum. Under the guidance of the interpreter, the students entered the Xi'an Forest of Steles, which has a history of more than 900 years. As the earliest museum established in Shaanxi, it was built in the second year of Yuanyou in the Northern Song Dynasty (1087) to preserve the Tang Dynasty's "Kaicheng Stone Classics", "Shitai Xiaojing" and famous calligraphy steles by Yan Zhenqing, Liu Zongyuan and others. It was moved to its current site in the second year of Chongning (1103). After repairs and expansions by successive dynasties, its scale has continued to expand, and the collection of stones has increased day by day. It has finally become a thematic art museum focusing on collecting, researching and displaying steles, epitaphs and stone carvings of past dynasties. The international students were very interested in the many steles collected in the Forest of Steles Museum, and had friendly exchanges with the interpreter. The atmosphere on site was very warm.

The purpose of this educational practice activity is to encourage international students to step out of the campus, get close to Xi'an, feel the culture and history of this historical ancient city up close, deepen the learning and communication among international students, help them feel Chinese culture, and integrate into the city of Xi'an. The School of International Education of Xidian University will continue to deeply explore new models of international student education, focus on the education of China's national conditions, tell good cultural stories, and display cultural charm. It will enrich the living experience of international students in China and enhance their understanding, recognition and affection for China.
