International Students from Southwest University of Finance and Economics Visit the Shuijingfang Museum

On the afternoon of March 20, 30 international students from Southwest University of Finance and Economics visited the Shuijingfang Museum to participate in a cultural field trip themed “Experiencing Chinese Baijiu.” At the start of the event, a museum docent guided the students through the exhibition area showcasing the history of Shuijingfang. Using a scale model of the distillery, the docent provided a systematic overview of the layout and production processes of ancient distilleries, helping the students gain a basic understanding of Chinese baijiu.

The group then proceeded to the on-site distillery to observe the entire process of baijiu production up close. From ingredient blending and mold cultivation to distillation and aging in clay jars, every step is meticulously executed, embodying centuries of accumulated craftsmanship. The students listened attentively to the explanations and closely observed the operational details, gaining a more intuitive understanding of the sophistication and complexity of traditional brewing techniques.

In the final exhibition area, “Going Global,” the docent explained how Shuijingfang, as a leading Chinese baijiu brand, has promoted Chinese baijiu culture worldwide through cultural outreach and international operations, showcasing the preservation and innovation of traditional culture in a contemporary context.

After the event, the students responded enthusiastically. Xia Yuanmao, an international student from Thailand, said, “Today’s event was fantastic. Getting to experience the process of making Chinese baijiu firsthand was truly an eye-opening experience.”

This “Reading China in Shu” social practice initiative represents a vivid example of the collaborative partnership between our university and the Shuijingfang Museum, aimed at promoting cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world. Moving forward, both parties will continue to explore new forms of cooperation to help international students experience, perceive, and understand China through hands-on activities, thereby infusing new vitality into cultural exchanges between China and the international community.
