To enhance the fire safety awareness and emergency self-rescue capabilities of international students at Nanchang University, the School of International Education organized a visit for 28 students to the Jiangxi Provincial Fire Safety Education Museum on March 10. Through on-site tours and interactive experiences, the students had the opportunity to systematically learn safety knowledge and master risk-avoidance skills.
Guided by docents and accompanying faculty, the students toured the lobby, the “A Century of Firefighting” exhibition hall, the Hall of Honor, and the Fire Safety Education Experience Hall. The museum’s rich collection of historical artifacts, vivid scene reenactments, and multimedia presentation systems provided a comprehensive overview of the development of firefighting in Jiangxi over the past century. By closely examining various types of firefighting equipment and rescue gear, the students gained a deeper understanding of fire prevention and evacuation knowledge, as well as a more intuitive appreciation of the professionalism and sense of mission inherent in firefighting and rescue work.
In the interactive experience area, the international students from Nanchang University enthusiastically participated in hands-on activities such as simulated fire extinguishing, fire escape drills, VR experiences, and rope-tying training. They personally operated fire extinguishers, practiced escape rope-tying techniques, and immersed themselves in learning key skills such as reporting fires, extinguishing initial fires, and emergency evacuation.
Throughout the event, the students listened attentively, asked questions, and engaged in discussions about fire safety systems and emergency management models in China and other countries, demonstrating a strong enthusiasm for learning. Frank, a student from Pakistan, remarked, “This experience was very practical. I learned how to properly extinguish fires and escape, and this knowledge is crucial in daily life.” Taysir, a student from Morocco, remarked, “China’s fire services are highly professional and compassionate; the spirit of firefighters in safeguarding public safety is truly admirable.” Everyone captured the learning moments on camera, sharing fire safety knowledge and safety concepts to spread these insights to a wider audience.
This event not only enhanced the international students’ safety awareness but also deepened their understanding of and appreciation for China’s fire service history and system. It represents a positive initiative by Nanchang University to organically integrate cultural education for international students with daily safety education.
