Sichuan University's "Legacy of Classics, Sichuan University" international student activity was successfully launched

On October 6, 2025, funded by the International Student Management Office of Sichuan University, the School of Literature and Journalism organized and carried out the cultural inheritance activity of "Trace of Caotang and Renewal of Ancient Books" of Sichuan University's "Legacy of Classics, Shu Yun Sichuan University" special activity project for international students.

At the beginning of the event, the grass and trees in the early morning were dew, and the faces full of expectation injected youthful vitality into this thousand-year-old former residence of the poet. Subsequently, under the guidance of the docent, everyone strolled through the pavilions and pavilions of the thatched cottage, from the firewood gate to the thatched hut, from the flower path to the poetry and history hall, every scenery carried Du Fu's life story and feelings of family and country. The docent specifically mentioned Du Fu's patriotic spirit that he still adhered to in the midst of difficulties in life, and his sincerity in his pen of "tens of millions of spacious buildings, sheltering the poor people of the world", made the international students present stop to ponder and deeply feel the personality charm of the poet saint. Young people in the new era should take struggle as a pen and faith as ink to write a gorgeous chapter in life.

The core part of the elegant collection, "Listening to the Piano during the Mid-Autumn Festival", was held at the Caotang Art Center, and 11 classic guqin songs connected the whole performance, interpreting Chinese aesthetics with melodious piano sounds. The melody under the fingertips seems to turn into a gurgling stream, from sobbing to rushing, and the rich timbre from the international students exclaimed that "it seems as if they really heard the sound of water droplets falling and streams gushing", and intuitively felt the unique charm of the guqin "intention outside the sound and the rhyme outside the realm". Lu Fen, a Thai doctoral student majoring in Chinese International Education at the 24th level of the college, slowly walked to the front of the stage in Hanfu and recited Su Shi's classic lyrics "Water Tune Song Head: When Will the Bright Moon Be" in a clear and tactful tone.

In the Du Fu Thatched Cottage Ancient Book Restoration Exhibition Hall, cultural relics restorers demonstrated China's ancient writing skills and printing skills on the spot, from brush movement skills to engraving printing processes, from ancient book paper selection to restoration of the principle of "repairing the old as the old", explaining in detail one by one, so that international students have a deeper understanding of the continuation and development of Chinese civilization.

The subsequent "Interactive Q&A on Ancient Chinese Books and Cultural Knowledge" session was full of fun, and the international students actively raised their hands to answer, and the atmosphere was warm, deepening their memory of traditional culture in the fun interaction. At the end of the event, international students gathered in the small lecture hall of Chinese studies to share their insights. Qin Lai, a 2025 doctoral student from Egypt, and Tong Tiansheng, a 24-level master's student, sighed with emotion: "The bamboo forest in Caotang is particularly beautiful, which can make people feel a warm inheritance power, which is particularly meaningful. They also mentioned that the story of Du Fu "still worrying about the country and the people" told by the docent was deeply touching, and they also better understood the weight of "family and country feelings" in traditional Chinese culture.

The cultural inheritance activity of international students of "Trace of Caotang and Renewal of Ancient Books" uses Du Fu thatched cottage as the carrier and Mid-Autumn Festival culture as the link to build a cultural exchange bridge across national borders. Young students from all over the world touch the thousand-year-old civilization, listen to the sound of tradition, and feel the spirit of poetry here, not only immersing themselves in the rich connotation of the Mid-Autumn Festival, but also becoming the perceivers and disseminators of Chinese culture, so that the dialogue of civilization quietly blooms in a poetic atmosphere.
