A delegation of faculty and students from the University of Lima in Peru visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University

On March 18, 2026, a delegation of faculty and students from the University of Lima in Peru visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Led by Wendy Karina Garcia Violeta and David Alfonso Barriga Camacho, the program directors of the Business Administration program, the delegation brought 20 Peruvian students to SJTU, kicking off an exciting journey of cultural exchange.

Organized and planned by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, with the participation of the Graduate School, Pujiang International College, and the Student Innovation Center, this event provided a platform for in-depth exchange between faculty and students from both universities.

Exploring the Frontiers of Innovation, Experiencing the Vitality of Scientific and Technological Innovation

Led by Zhao Weiming, Director of the Expansion Laboratory at the Student Innovation Center, the delegation from the University of Lima began their visit at the Student Innovation Center. The visiting students experienced the center’s various cutting-edge innovation facilities firsthand and gained a systematic understanding of the operational models and project incubation mechanisms for student innovation and entrepreneurship. Through tours of teaching, practical training, and activity spaces, the Peruvian students gained a deep appreciation for the complete innovation chain—from creative concepts to the commercialization of outcomes—and spoke highly of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s educational philosophy of encouraging innovation and supporting practical application.

Visiting Pujiang International College: Understanding Development and Heritage

Subsequently, the delegation proceeded to Pujiang International College. Xiao Jianrong, a full-time faculty member at the Tang Junyuan Student Innovation Center, explained the college’s development history and distinctive features, vividly outlining its trajectory from its founding background to stories of its alumni. The visiting faculty and students gained a more comprehensive understanding of Jiaotong University’s international education system, engaging in frequent on-site interactions in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Face-to-Face Exchange: Exploring Jiaotong University’s International Development

During the special lecture session, Mei Yueli, Director of the Americas Office at the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, presided over the event and delivered a welcome address, introducing the exchange activities. Chen Buqiao, Administrative Manager of the International Office at the Graduate School, provided a systematic and detailed overview of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s overall development, covering its historical evolution, disciplinary strengths, and achievements in international cooperation. She also highlighted the Graduate School’s various training programs and application pathways, welcoming and encouraging students from the University of Lima to pursue advanced studies at the university in the future.

The lecture featured lively interaction, with students actively asking questions in a relaxed and enthusiastic atmosphere. Subsequently, Du Yan, Director of the International Office at Pujiang International College, delivered a presentation on the college’s admissions process, systematically introducing its educational models and program features. Through program explanations and case studies, the visiting students gained a clearer and more concrete understanding of SJTU’s international programs, which provided valuable insights for their future academic planning. Many students approached the staff after the session to express their keen interest.

Exchange Continues, Future Holds Promise

From the Innovation Center to the lecture hall, and from campus tours to in-depth exchanges, this visit allowed faculty and students from the University of Lima to fully experience SJTU’s innovative vitality and open atmosphere, further solidifying the foundation of cooperation between the two universities. Many visiting students noted that the trip broadened their international horizons and sparked a desire to pursue advanced studies in China. As a key participant in the globalization process, Shanghai Jiao Tong University continues to advance high-level international cooperation and build an open, shared educational platform.

In the future, the university will further strengthen collaborative development with overseas institutions, promote cross-cultural exchange and innovative cooperation, and contribute sustained momentum to global educational development. The University of Lima (Universidad de Lima) is a renowned private institution located in Lima, the capital of Peru, and was founded in 1962. Currently, it has 16,000 students, 12 colleges, one graduate school, and one research center, and enjoys a high reputation locally. The university places great emphasis on international exchange and cooperation, having launched dual-degree programs with institutions such as the University of London and the University of Queensland.
