SCUT International Students Win Two First Prizes at 2025 'Charming Guangdong, Helping Me Fulfill My Dreams' Exchange Event

On December 3, 2025, the 2025 "Charming Guangdong, Helping Me Fulfill My Dreams" Exchange Activity for International Students in Guangdong—hosted by the Guangdong Public Diplomacy Association, the Guangdong Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the Guangdong Education International Exchange Association—was grandly held at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. The literary and artistic program Mulan and the language program When Samba Meets Herbal Tea, selected by South China University of Technology (SCUT), performed outstandingly and stood out among many excellent entries, both winning the first prize. Mulan is based on the classic Chinese story. Through the innovative integration of modern stage design and traditional elements, it vividly reproduces the legendary chapter of Mulan taking her father's place in the army and serving the country with loyalty and courage. The program not only highlights the spiritual core of "loyalty, filial piety, integrity, and righteousness" in Chinese excellent traditional culture, but also deeply moves the on-site judges and audience across languages and borders with its highly infectious stage presentation, winning unanimous praise.

When Samba Meets Herbal Tea takes creative storytelling and cross-cultural dialogue as its core, cleverly combining the vibrant Brazilian culture with Guangdong's profound folk customs. Through a humorous and warm talk show format, the program vividly interprets the theme of mutual learning among civilizations and harmonious integration. Profound in humor and inclusive in dialogue, its novel concept and wonderful performance have received wide acclaim.

After the award ceremony, Wang Qingnian, Dean of the School of International Education, officially took over the event flag as the representative of the organizing unit for next year's activity. The "Charming Guangdong, Helping Me Fulfill My Dreams" Exchange Activity for International Students in Guangdong is a branded international cultural exchange event for international students in Guangdong. Through diverse literary, artistic, and language programs, it shares international students' experiences of studying and living in China, showcases the healthy, positive image and youthful vitality of international students in Guangdong, deepens the younger generation of foreigners' understanding and recognition of the "Belt and Road Initiative", "Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind", and the Four Major Civilizations Initiative, and cultivates a new generation of cultural exchange envoys.

South China University of Technology

Abbreviated as "South China University of Technology (SCUT)", it is located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. It is a national key university sponsored by the state and directly under the Ministry of Education. Its administrative authority is the educational administrative department of the State Council, and it is co-built by the educational administrative department of the State Council and the People's Government of Guangdong Province. SCUT is a high-level university included in the national "Double First-Class" Initiative, "Project 211", and "Project 985" for key construction. It has been selected into the "111 Plan" (Discipline Innovation and Talent Introduction Program for Higher Education Institutions), the "Excellence in Engineer Education and Training Program", the "101 Plan", and the first batch of bases for technology transfer and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements in higher education institutions. It is a recipient institution of the Chinese Government Scholarship for international students and a demonstration base for international students in China of the Ministry of Education. SCUT is a member of the "Old Eight Schools of Architecture" and the China-UK University Engineering Education and Research Alliance, and one of the first batch of universities to establish "Future Technology Colleges".

SCUT was originally named South China Institute of Technology. Its educational history can be traced back to the Guangdong Provincial No.1 First-Class Industrial School founded in 1918. After several adjustments, it was merged into the College of Engineering of National Sun Yat-sen University in 1938, and later integrated into South China Institute of Technology together with the Guangdong Provincial Industrial College re-established in 1944. Formally established during the national higher education institutional adjustment in 1952, it was one of the "Four Major Institutes of Technology" of New China. It became a national key university in 1960; in 1981, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first batch of institutions authorized to award doctoral and master's degrees; in January 1988, it was renamed South China University of Technology.
