Northwestern Polytechnical University International Students Actively Participated in the 25th NPUMUN and Achieved Outstanding Results

Recently, the 25th Northwestern Polytechnical University Model United Nations Conference (NPUMUN), hosted by the Model United Nations Base of Northwestern Polytechnical University, was successfully held. Many international student delegates actively participated and performed excellently in the conference, demonstrating outstanding international vision and comprehensive qualities.

During the several-day conference, international students were assigned to multiple committees, representing different countries to conduct in-depth discussions and consultations on global issues. In the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA3), delegates deliberated on topics such as the protection of journalists' safety in armed conflicts; in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), delegates launched multiple rounds of debates around the North Korean nuclear issue, a complex international security challenge; in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the fairness and sustainable path of energy transition became the focus of discussion.

With solid pre-conference research, clear deliberative abilities, and active diplomatic consultations, many international student delegates won awards at the conference for their outstanding performance. The specific list of award winners is as follows:

Participating in this Model UN activity provided international students with a valuable cross-cultural learning experience. MERIEME MOUDDEN from Morocco said: “By simulating the role of delegates from different countries, we were able to deeply understand the complexity of international relations and improve our communication and collaboration abilities in a multicultural context. Together with our Chinese friends, we cherished the enthusiasm for a better world, reached resolutions while forging friendships.”

At the Model UN conference, international students not only deeply discussed international events, but also exercised various abilities such as organization, writing, management, background research, speech, debate, conflict resolution, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and communication through simulation and practice, laying a solid foundation for leadership development.

Northwestern Polytechnical University

Nicknamed "NPU", it is located in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and a university directly managed by the Central Government. It is a national key university featuring talent cultivation and scientific research in fields such as aviation, aerospace, and marine engineering (the "Three Astronautics"). It is included in the national "Double First-Class" initiative, "Project 985", and "Project 211". It was listed as one of the national key construction universities by the State Council during the "Seventh Five-Year Plan" and "Eighth Five-Year Plan" periods. It is a member of the "2011 Plan", "111 Plan", "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan", "Excellence University Alliance", an initiating university of the "Belt and Road" Aerospace Innovation Alliance, a national typical experience university for graduate employment, one of the first ten universities in the country to lead the construction of the National Excellent Engineer College, and a university that has been awarded the "Major Contribution Award" twice in a row.

Northwestern Polytechnical University can be traced back to the National Northwest Institute of Technology founded in 1938. In 1946, the National Northwest Institute of Technology moved to Xianyang. In 1950, it was renamed Northwest Institute of Technology. In 1952, the aviation engineering departments of Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, and Nanjing University were organized into East China Aviation College in Nanjing. In 1956, it moved to Xi'an and was renamed Xi'an Aviation College. In October 1957, Northwest Institute of Technology and Xi'an Aviation College merged to form Northwestern Polytechnical University. In February 1970, the aviation engineering department of Harbin Institute of Engineering (now Harbin Engineering University) was fully incorporated. In 2017, it was included in the list of "World-Class Universities" (Category A) construction universities.
