International Students from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics Visit the Northern Zhou Wenwang Stele in Chengdu

On November 14, the School of International Education of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and the School of Chinese Traditional Culture of Chengdu Normal University jointly held a cultural practice activity themed "Continuing the Legacy · Passing on the Craft". Centered on inheriting excellent traditional Chinese culture, the activity invited Wang Huaicheng, associate researcher at the Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences, as the keynote speaker.

Twenty international students from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and over 20 undergraduate students from Chengdu Normal University jointly visited the site of the Northern Zhou King Wen Stele in Longquanyi, Chengdu, to gain in-depth understanding of stele culture and engage in a profound dialogue with the millennium-old historical civilization in the on-site setting. Taking "The Guanlong Style and Folk Beliefs of the Northern Zhou King Wen Stele" as the theme, Wang Huaicheng carefully interpreted the Northern Zhou King Wen Stele and its historical culture, and systematically sorted out the core value and academic status of the stele by combining with the historical materials of the inscription. In the calligraphy practice session, Chinese and foreign students made and wrote unique bookmarks by hand. In the process of copying and creating stroke by stroke, they not only practiced Chinese calligraphy but also condensed their observations and feelings into the small bookmarks, which became the most precious memory of this trip. Through the lecture and on-site visit, international students intuitively realized how a precious cultural relic connects history, art and folk beliefs, becoming a code to interpret an era.

As one of the series of "Knowing and Doing China" social practice activities for international students of the university, this activity combines classroom theory with on-site research, allowing international students to travel through time and space, touch China's profound historical context with their own hands, and greatly stimulate their enthusiasm for learning and understanding Chinese history and culture. In the future, the university will continue to build a practical education platform for international students studying in China, to promote people-to-people exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations.
