Shandong University Delegation Attends 2025 World Chinese Conference

From November 14 to 16, 2025, the 2025 World Chinese Conference was held at the National Convention Center in Beijing. Ding Xuexiang, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the opening ceremony of the conference and delivered a keynote speech. Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education, presided over the opening ceremony, and Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education, delivered a keynote report at the plenary session of the conference. Yi Fan, Vice President of Shandong University, led a delegation to attend the conference.

At the parallel forum on "Mutual Learning Between Chinese and Foreign Civilizations and Cultivation of Chinese Studies Talents", Yi Fan shared the practical experience of Shandong University in building a digital-intelligence empowerment system and using digital and information-based methods to promote Confucianism research, cultural exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations, and international Chinese education. He stated that we should continue to carry forward the spirit of educators and train young sinologists to become envoys bridging Chinese and foreign civilizations.

At the signing and awarding ceremony for international Chinese education-related agreements, Shandong University signed cooperation agreements with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, National University of Mongolia, and Goertek Inc. to jointly train local Chinese teachers and promote the cultivation of overseas talents in "Chinese + Professional" programs.

At the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) Global Partner Conference, Shandong University won the "2025 HSK Study in China Best Partner Award" and became one of the first universities to settle on the HSK Study in China platform.

During the conference, Ma Xiaole, Dean of the School of International Education, presided over the roundtable forum of the 2025 Academic Annual Conference of the World Association for Chinese Language Teaching. During the conference, the Shandong University delegation communicated with relevant department heads of the Ministry of Education, foreign directors of co-built Confucius Institutes, and heads of various international Chinese institutions. They successively held annual council meetings for four Confucius Institutes: the Confucius Institute at Chungnam National University (South Korea), the Confucius Institute at Dongseo University (South Korea), the Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Belgrade (Serbia). The meetings focused on the connotation construction and transformation development of Confucius Institutes and adopted relevant work plans.

Main responsible persons from units including the International Affairs Department (Office of International Chinese Education) of Shandong University, the School of International Education, and the Affiliated High School, as well as Chinese and foreign directors of Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) co-built by Shandong University, attended the conference.

The 2025 World Chinese Conference was hosted by the Ministry of Education, and co-organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, the Chinese International Chinese Education Foundation, and the World Association for Chinese Language Teaching. With the theme of "Innovation-led, Digital-Intelligence Empowered — Making Chinese Language Accessible to All", nearly 2,000 participants attended the conference, including heads of education authorities, international organizations, Chinese and foreign universities, and international language and culture promotion institutions from over 160 countries and regions, as well as experts, scholars, enterprise representatives, and foreign ambassadors to China.

The university was founded in 1901, formerly known as Shandong University Hall; in 1904, it was renamed Shandong Higher School; in 1924, the private Qingdao University was officially established; in 1926, six specialized schools merged to form the provincial Shandong University; in 1930, the National Qingdao University was officially established; in 1932, it was renamed National Shandong University; in 1945, Shandong University was founded (to distinguish it from National Shandong University, it was called Linyi Shandong University); in 1951, it merged with East China University and retained the name Shandong University; in 2000, Shandong University, Shandong Medical University, and Shandong University of Technology merged to form the new Shandong University; in 2001, it was identified as a high-level research-oriented university key for the national "Project 985"; in 2017, it was selected as a national "Double First-Class" construction university.
