To expand the cultural horizons of international students and deepen their understanding of China's ecological culture and folk customs, on November 11, Sichuan University organized over 100 international students from 37 countries to participate in a cultural practice activity themed "Exploring the Traces of National Treasures and Experiencing Western Sichuan Style".
The first stop of the activity was Dujiangyan Panda Paradise. On the way, the tour guide on the bus explained the origin and interesting stories of the Chinese and English names of giant pandas, sparking enthusiastic interactive discussions among the students. Entering the park, the international students observed the living habits of giant pandas and red pandas at close range, witnessing the naive and cute postures of these national treasures as they ate bamboo leaves, strolled leisurely, and played with each other. The students could hardly hide their excitement and took photos with these lovely "diplomatic envoys" one after another, freezing the unforgettable moments with their cameras. This intimate contact not only made everyone marvel repeatedly, but also gave them an intuitive and profound understanding of China's ecological protection concepts and achievements in the conservation of endangered species.
Strolling on the bluestone paths of Jiezui Ancient Town in Chongzhou, the international students embarked on a unique cultural experience in the water-infused and lively ancient town streets. Many students were attracted by the fragrant "Ye'erba" (a traditional snack wrapped in banana leaves) at the waterfront teahouses and eagerly tasted this snack, savoring the delicate flavor unique to water towns in its soft, glutinous and sweet taste. Some students stopped at the painting stalls of folk artists, watching and even personally experiencing vivid portrait sketches, which narrowed the distance with the local community through artistic interaction. What's more, some students encountered the leisurely "local residents" of the ancient town—the cats—unexpectedly. These warm interactions intertwined with the gurgling sound of water, forming vivid and harmonious pictures of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
Sichuan University has always been committed to building a diverse, open and inclusive learning environment for international students. By organizing such practical activities, it not only expands students' horizons, but also builds bridges of friendship for mutual learning among civilizations, helping every international student at Sichuan University perceive a real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China.
