On the afternoon of November 12th, the third "Chinese Corner" activity—hosted by the School of International Education of Anhui University and co-organized by the School of Literature and the National Language Promotion Base of Anhui University—was successfully held at the Longhe Campus.
Themed "Dressing China: A Panorama of Ancient and Modern Clothing Aesthetics", this activity aims to help international students immerse themselves in the charm of Chinese clothing culture and intangible cultural heritage (ICH) craftsmanship, and enhance their practical Chinese language skills through fun interactions. More than 40 international students from over 20 countries (including Pakistan, Belarus, and Vietnam) participated enthusiastically. The ice-breaking game "ICH Clothing Squat" kicked off the event, quickly heating up the on-site atmosphere.
In the relaxed, enjoyable interactions, participating students initially learned clothing-related terms such as "Hanfu" (Han ethnic clothing), "buyao" (hairpin with dangling ornaments), "huadian" (forehead decoration), and "yunjian" (cloud shoulder). In the subsequent "Time Walk" session, volunteers acted as cultural messengers: they guided international students to try on Hanfu from different periods while explaining its cultural connotations. From the light, elegant ruqun (skirt and blouse) and beizi (jacket) of the Song Dynasty, to the dignified, elegant aoqun (blouse and skirt) and mamianqun (horse-face skirt) of the Ming Dynasty, and then to the new improved Hanfu integrating modern aesthetics—students intuitively felt the evolution of Chinese clothing styles from ancient to modern through trying on and listening.
The interspersed ICH popularization was equally fascinating: the agility of the buyao swaying with steps, the ancient charm of huadian adorning the forehead, and the delicate shell-inlay craftsmanship of luodian (mother-of-pearl) ornaments. Through physical displays and hands-on experiences, everyone deeply appreciated the exquisite skills and aesthetic value of ICH craftsmanship. During the "Pictionary" game session, students consolidated terms like "Hanfu", "mamianqun", and "buyao" again via physical expression and teamwork, while their Chinese expression skills were further improved amidst laughter and joy.
A student from Belarus excitedly shared: "Hanfu and ICH ornaments are very beautiful, and the games and hands-on experiences are particularly fun. I not only learned many new words but also gained a deeper understanding of Chinese culture." As the third installment of the "Threaded Main Line, Progressive Layers" series, this "Chinese Corner" continued the "fun interaction + cultural experience" model, cleverly integrating clothing aesthetics and ICH craftsmanship into Chinese language learning scenarios.
In the future, our college will continue to take promoting cross-cultural communication as its purpose, launch more meaningful, warm, and experiential cultural activities, help international students gain an in-depth understanding of China and integrate into Chinese life, and inject youthful vitality into building a community with a shared future for mankind.
