
From October 19th to 24th, Zhao Xin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, led a delegation to visit Europe, visiting UN agencies, universities and enterprises in Vienna, Austria, Prague, Czech Republic and other places, and visiting cadres, interns and local alumni. Relevant personnel from the Student Work Steering Committee, the Academic Affairs Office, and the International Cooperation and Exchange Office accompanied the delegation.
From October 19 to 22, the delegation carried out a series of exchange activities at the Vienna International Center in Austria. During the visit, the delegation visited the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna (hereinafter referred to as the "Permanent Mission"), had a discussion and exchange with Liu Guanghui, Minister of the Permanent Mission, and had an in-depth understanding of the Permanent Mission's participation in international rule-making and dialogue and cooperation under the framework of the United Nations and relevant international organizations in Vienna, and discussed the cooperation channels between Chinese universities and international organizations in scientific research cooperation and talent training.
The delegation visited the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and had discussions with Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov, Director of the Personnel Department Peter Fröbel, and Director of the Department of Energy Planning, Information and Knowledge Management Huang Wei, and conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as degree programs, education and training in the field of atomic energy. The delegation also visited the IAEA Nuclear Security Demonstration Training Center (NSTDC) at the Seibersdorf laboratory to learn about the center's world-leading practice in nuclear security capacity building.
During their visit to the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), the delegation met with Driss El Hadani, Deputy Director of the Office for Outer Space Affairs, and exchanged views on the "Space 4 Water" project (using space technology to address water challenges) and student internships. The delegation visited the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and had discussions and exchanges with Deputy Director-General Zou Liyong and the directors of the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Division, the Energy and Climate Division, the Small and Medium Enterprises Division, the Circular Economy and Green Development Division, and the Industrial Policy and Capacity Building Division.
The delegation visited the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and held discussions with Senior Legal Officer Samira Musayeva on topics such as student internships and joining the case pool.
From October 23 to 24, the delegation went to Prague, Czech Republic to carry out exchange activities. The delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic, met with Chargé d'affaires Zuo Wenxing, discussed exchanges and cooperation in the higher education sectors between China and Czech Republic, and visited Jiang Yupeng, a temporary cadre of Jiaotong University sent to the Embassy in Czech Republic by the Ministry of Education. Zuo Wenxing expressed his sincere gratitude to Jiaotong University for its support in selecting cadres stationed abroad.
At the Prague University of Finance and Management, the delegation exchanged views with representatives of the University of Prague, including Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees Emil Šenkýř and Vice-Rector Petr Budinský, and looked forward to further deepening cooperation between the two universities on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the founding of Jiaotong University. In addition, the delegation visited the Czech University of Life Sciences.
The delegation visited CITIC Europe headquarters and had discussions with Deputy General Manager Li Jing and other topics, and the two sides discussed the demand for talents in overseas central enterprises and the overseas internship path of students. The two sides said that they will further strengthen cooperation in joint training and student employment in the future. During the visit to Austria and the Czech Republic, the delegation also visited students and local alumni who were interns in international organizations, and held the activity of "Thinking of the Origin and Reaching the Future, Legend of the Hundred Thirty - Global Jiaotong University Transmitting a Flag" to convey the care of the alma mater, unite the strength of alumni, and further enhance the emotional connection and resource exchange between teachers, students and alumni.
This visit has effectively promoted exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Austria and the Czech Republic in the fields of global competency talent training, international organization affairs and higher education, and is an important measure for the university to actively serve the overall situation of national diplomacy, continue to promote the internationalization strategy, and accelerate the construction of a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
