From November 29 to 30, 2025, nearly 70 Fudan international scholarship students from more than 30 countries visited Yiwu for a cultural study tour. By exploring Lizhu Village, the Former Residence of Chen Wangdao, Zhejiang Chouzhou Commercial Bank, and the Yiwu International Trade City, the students engaged in field visits, discussions, and themed research, gaining a deep and firsthand understanding of how high-quality development is practiced at the grassroots level.
Day 1
As a model of Zhejiang's "Thousand-Village Demonstration and Ten-Thousand Village Renovation" initiative, Lizhu Village has transformed into a "green, prosperous, and beautiful" rural community in just 20 years, drawing widespread attention to its remarkable progress. During the field study, students visited the village's makerspaces, tie-dye studios, and other distinctive industries, gaining first-hand insight into the tangible outcomes of rural revitalization.
That afternoon, the team visited the former residence of Chen Wangdao, an esteemed former president of Fudan University, for a study tour. They experienced firsthand the living and working environment of the late president and gained a deeper understanding of the classic story behind "the sweet taste of truth". Through tracing the origins, the international students further grasped the profound historical context and cultural heritage of Fudan University.
Day 2
On Sunday morning, students visited Zhejiang Chouzhou Commercial Bank, a major local financial institution in Yiwu. Representatives of the bank introduced its innovative financial models designed to support small and micro enterprises and strengthen the real economy. They also briefed the international students on internship pathways and career development opportunities. The discussion offered the students a more multidimensional understanding of the dynamism and inclusiveness of China's financial system.
The highlight of the itinerary was Yiwu International Trade City, known as the "World's Supermarket". The international students were divided into groups to explore Zone 1 and Zone 5, getting a close-up view of the business ecosystem of the world's largest small commodity market: from creative handicrafts to smart electronic products, from decorations favored by Arab merchants to holiday gifts sold to Europe, every shop is a vivid microcosm that offers insights into China's supply chain and global trade.
The final stop of the visit took place at the Yiwu International Trade City-known globally as the "world's supermarket". Divided into groups, the international students explored District 1 and District 5, gaining close-up insights into the business ecosystem of the world's largest small commodities market. From creative handicrafts to smart electronic products, from decorative items favored by Arab traders to holiday gifts exported to Europe, each shop served as a vivid microcosm of China's supply chains and globalized trade.
