
On November 5, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid and his delegation visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University and had a cordial meeting with Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university. Vice President Liu Weidong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department Yu Chaoyang attended the meeting.
Yang Zhenbin extended a warm welcome to the Malaysian delegation from afar. He pointed out that Shanghai Jiao Tong University actively promotes exchanges and cooperation with Malaysia, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with Malaysian universities and scientific research institutions, jointly carry out joint research in cutting-edge fields, actively respond to global challenges, and warmly welcome more outstanding young Malaysian students to study at Shanghai Jiaotong University. Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid said it was an honour to visit Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China's top and world-renowned institution of higher learning.
He pointed out that the signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the People's Trust Bureau of MARA (MARA) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University is of great significance, aiming to promote cooperation between the two sides in academic development, scientific research innovation, and capacity building of teachers and students. He stressed that the cooperation between the two sides will not only empower student exchanges and training, strengthen scientific research collaboration, but also build a lasting friendship and partnership between Malaysia and China. In the presence of Yang Zhenbin, Liu Weidong, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahi and Mara People's Trust Authority (MARA) Datuk Wila Asri Wajidi Dusuki, Yu Chaoyang signed a memorandum of cooperation with Masatu Akma Mohd, Deputy Director of the Mara People's Trust Authority (MARA). Yang Zhenbin presented Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid with a purple ink peony in Chinese painting by famous painter and professor Zhan Renzuo of Shanghai Jiaotong University.
During the event, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid and Yang Zhenbin met with representatives of outstanding Malaysian students studying at Shanghai Jiaotong University and exchanged cordial exchanges with them, expressing their concern and high expectations for the students.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University was founded in 1896, formerly known as Nanyang Public School, renamed Nanyang University Hall in 1911, Shanghai School of Jiaotong University in 1921, Shanghai Headquarters of National Chiao Tong University in 1928, and Jiaotong University in 1949; In 1956, according to the decision of the Party Central Committee, the westward migration began, and in 1957, the Shanghai and Xi'an parts of Jiaotong University were established, and in 1959, the Shanghai part was named Shanghai Jiao Tong University; In 1999, the former Shanghai Agricultural College was merged; In 2005, it merged with the former Shanghai Second Medical University.
